With over 70 years drinking experience between them, father and son brewers Mike and Leo Bell knew what beers they liked.

But their tastes have changed recently as they have experienced the bright, fresh and complex flavours that can be crafted using only water, grain, yeast and the growing range of hops from around the world.

Inspired by Brewdog and local brewers including Northern Alchemy and Wylam they decided to have a go themselves. They started with a Punk IPA kit which turned out very drinkable and did a few all grain brews with Joe Milam and the Brewhouse Collective at Brewdog Newcastle.

They invested in their own kit and started brewing in Mike’s garage but soon had to find premises when Mike moved to Ouseburn and lost the garage.

Making the decision to stay small and local but go commercial they upgraded their equipment and founded their first brewery in the Quayside Development Centre in Ouseburn.

Beginning with beers they like to drink themselves they perfected a range of IPAs, Pale Ales, Brown Ale and Saison, a Belgian Farmhouse beer.
